The following links are very helpful. They allow the children to play games based on their spellings and to test themselves online.

We are currently learning about the weather in Geography. We illustrated some weather lore. Weather lore is informal folklore related to the prediction of the weather. We also looked at some weather related seanfhocail.
We made Easter baskets using papier mache. It was really messy, but great fun. We covered balloons in a few layers of newspaper and glue. When they were dry, we cut the balloons in half and painted them. We then filled them with some Easter treats.
Winners of the Easter Raffle
St. Patrick’s Prayer Service
Third and Fourth class organised a St. Patrick’s prayer service for the school.
We really enjoyed commemorating 1916 at school. We played old playground games such as ‘Toss the Coin’ and ‘Marbles’.
Winners of the 1916 art competition
Easter Rising 1916
It is one hundred years since ‘The Easter Rising’. We are currently learning about this historical event. We imagined we lived during this era and wrote letters to our cousins in America, telling them about what had happened. We are looking forward to dressing up as children from this era next Tuesday!
World Book Day 2016
We took part in various activities for ‘World Book Day’ on March 3rd. We did a book swap, we wrote book reviews on our favourite books and we did some buddy reading with Miss Flynn’s class. We really enjoyed this and we hope to pay them a visit again before the year is over!
We learned about ‘The Vikings’ with Miss Mc Guirk and did some art based on this topic.
We learned lots about Japan with Miss Mc Guirk. We painted pictures of cherry blossom trees. The cherry blossom tree symbolises new beginnings in Japan. We also constructed paper kimonos, which are a traditional Japanese robe.
Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh
We wrote our New Year’s resolutions for 2016!
We imagined what life would be like inside a snow globe. We wrote poems based on this and drew pictures inside snow globes.
We painted a winter scene of a robin perched on snow covered branches.
We drew pictures of the advent candles using chalks.
We made a light bulb light up in science by creating circuits. We learned that the circuit must remain closed in order for the bulb to light. We used a paper clip to act as a switch. When we opened the paper clip the light went off. We tested some materials to see which were good conductors and insulators of electricity. The key was a great conductor. The sheet of paper was not a good conductor.
The Sound Collector
We enjoyed writing our own versions of the poem ‘The Sound Collector’ recently.
We created Halloween lanterns by recycling old jam jars. Don’t they look really spooky?
Well done to the winning team in our Halloween Quiz!
For Halloween, we made ‘Spooky Smoothies’. We used spinach, bananas, pineapple and orange juice. Some of us loved them and some preferred them without the spinach!! We then wrote the recipe out so we could make them at home. We used ‘bossy verbs’ at the start of the sentences and wrote the steps in the correct order.
We painted self portraits in Art. We wrote our goals on our glasses. We hope to achieve these goals by the end of the school year.
We learned a lot about Italy in Geography. We were particularly interested in the city of Venice. We painted the city on shoe boxes and constructed gondolas from card. We would love to take a trip on a gondola some day!
We also integrated our geography into English. We wrote reports on everything we have learned about Italy.
